The greater positive charge pulls electrons closer to the nucleus. (ii) Helium's Position: Helium is in Group 18 (noble gases) and Period 1. Helium has only one electron shell with a very strong nuclear attraction for its electrons, resulting in the smallest atomic radius. Though Hydrogen has one shell like helium does, hydrogen atom has only one proton and one electron resulting in weaker nuclear attraction.
